New Blog! A bit about me

Hi! I've been obsessed about nail polish for a little over 4 years now, and I thought it was about time to have a blog about my obsession. This is my very first blog, so I hope you like it!

A bit about me:

I used to be a nail biter. I was always a nail biter as far back as I can remember. Any nail growth was promptly bitten off and I was constantly hearing "Get your fingers out of your mouth!" from my parents. It continued throughout my teens and into my early twenties and I was disgusted by them. I would hide my hands whenever I could, but I just couldn't break the habit. I even tried that terrible tasting stuff you apply on your nails, but it stays on your hands even after you wash them, so the taste would go all over my sandwiches and other finger food. Yuck. I always longed to have nice nails, but since I'd bitten them for so long, they would just break if I held myself back long enough for them to get any sort of length. I always wanted a French manicure. It looked so nice, but the only way I saw myself ever having them, was to have expensive acrylics. I had given up on them until about 4 years ago. My then boyfriend (now husband) Tony's sister was in school to be an Esthetician. She had really nice nails and we somehow got on the subject of my horrid nails. She told me with confidance that she can make them nice and long. I scoffed but couldn't turn down the opportunity to try. Once a week she would give me a manicure, and apply varying colors of nail polish. I was still very self-conscious about my nails, but with the polish on them, I stopped biting them. I realized that I wanted to bite them if they had jagged edges, so I carried a file with me and if a nail broke a little, I'd file it smooth. After a few months, my nails started to look nicer! I bought my first nail polish ever from her, a little mini for touch ups, "It's up to Blue" by Orly. It's still one of my favorite colors.

After a while, I bought a few more mini Orly bottles and started to do my own nails. How hard could it be, right? Well, my inexperienced, shaky hands paired with the mini brushes made for a rocky start. It would take me HOURS to polish a simple color, and bumping something and starting over was a common occurrence. But I kept with it, and I started to get better. I bought some full sized Sally Hansen bottles from the local store, and ordered some China Glaze from Transdesign. Pretty early on, I decided that I should paint my toenails too, and I'm a bit of a videogame nerd so I tried out some Pac Man nail art. I cut out a Pac Man and ghost shape from some electrical tape that was lying around, painted my big toes yellow, applied the tape, and painted black over top. I painted a cherry next to one Pacman, and a dark blue ghost next to the other and made yellow dots on the other nails. Tony was impressed, and I got a lot of great comments from my facebook friends when I posted the pictures there too :)

And so began my interest in nail art... I still post a lot of my nail art on facebook and I have an embarrasing Youtube channel with a few followers. Now I'm ready for my own blog! Thanks for stopping by! :)
